Hobby Master 1/72 Air Power Series HA4313: F-86F Sabre 51-12958 "The Paper Tiger", Capt. Harold E. Fischer, 39th FIS/1st FW, Korea 1953. Comes with an additional add on decal which reads "Heavens Above". RRP £67.99

During the Korean War Captain Harold E. Fischer Jr. flew an F-86F with the 39th FIS/51st FIW at Suwon, Korea. Fischer had been piloting an F-84 but quickly adjusted to the newer aircraft and accumulated ten MiG victories making him a double Ace. On April 7, 1953 just as he scored his eleventh victory Fischer was either shot down or ingested debris from the 11th MiG that brought his aircraft down. He was captured and released two years later. He went on to fly 200 missions in Vietnam.

The North American F-86 Sabre was manufactured from 1949 – 1956 and was America’s first swept-wing fighter. As well as being built in the U.S. variants were built in Canada and Australia arrived to take on the other swept-wing aircraft of the conflict, the MiG-15 Fagot. The Americans claim they shot down 792 MiGs while only losing 78 Sabres, a 10:1 victory ratio which is greatly disputed.
